Visit the most impressive wildlife reserves in all of East Africa on our Safari in Kenya and Tanzania.  We begin in the North of Kenya at the Samburu Reserve, home to exotic species like the Grevy's zebra and the Reticulated giraffe, which are not found as we move farther South. Visit both the world-famous Maasai Mara Reserve and the Serengeti National Park, capturing the best that both Kenya and Tanzania have to offer and maximizing your chances to catch movements of animal migration. Our journey is capped off by a visit to the Ngorongoro National Park, a UNESCO World heritage site, and the top spot in Tanzania to view black rhino. Our comfortable safari features 4WD Land Rovers and flights between destinations, maximizing the time spent game viewing in each of these parks.

DAY 1 :  ARRIVAL INTO NAIROBI
Arrive into the Jomo Kenyatta International airport where you'll be met after passing through customs and transferred to overnight at the Nairobi Serena. [Meals on your own]

DAYS 2-3 :  SAMBURU GAME RESERVE

This morning transfer to the Wilson airport and fly North to the Samburu Game Reserve. Your guide will meet you when you land for your first game drive in the Samburu Reserve. This semi-arid northern reserve is a haven for rare species such as the gerenuk, the endangered Grevy's zebra, the unique Somali ostrich, and the reticulated giraffe. Leopards are often spotted in the trees along the Uaso Nyiro River and bird life is abundant, with over 400 species recorded in the area!  This is also a great area for lion, cheetah, and elephant families who cover themselves with the red Samburu dust. Overnight for two nights at the Samburu Intrepids Camp, which features 27 permanent tents all with en-suite facilities perched near the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River. [BLD]

DAYS 4-6 :  MAASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
Transfer to the airstrip this morning for your flight to Nairobi, connecting with a flight farther South to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. No other place on earth compares with the multitudes of wild animals found in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, part of the vast Serengeti ecosystem spanning Kenya and Tanzania. During the summer months (usually from July to September) the Great Migration comprised of 1.5 million wildebeest and several hundred thousand zebra make the Maasai Mara their home. Here herds of zebra, wildebeest, and topi mingle on the short grass plains keeping an eye out for numerous predators, including lion, cheetah, leopard, and hyena. Maasai giraffe and impala graze in the woodlands while hippos and crocodiles bask along the shores of the Talek and Mara Rivers. Our base in the Mara is the Mara Intrepids Camp, located at the confluence of the Maasai Mara's four game viewing areas, idyllically set above a bend in the Talek River. [BLD]

DAY 7 :  ON TO TANZANIA
Today take your last morning game drive in Kenya before boarding your flight back to Nairobi and connecting to a second flight to the Kilimanjaro International airport in Arusha, Tanzania. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your accommodations. Overnight at Olasiti Lodge [BD]

DAY 8 :  LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK AND KARATU
With your driver-guide, you will depart Arusha for the two hour drive to the Lake Manyara National Park. The lake, situated along the impressive escarpment of the Rift Valley, takes its name from the Maasai word for Euphorbia tirucalli, a thorny hedge the Maasai use to protect their cattle. Manyara is home to large families of baboons who cavort in the palm trees as well as elephant, hippo, giraffe, and buffalo. The bird life is also very impressive with flamingoes, pelicans, hornbills, and plenty of forest species. After viewing all that Manyara has to offer we will continue up the Rift Valley Escarpment to the town of Karatu and Plantation Lodge, a working farm nestled in the foothills of the Ngorongoro Highlands. Overnight at Plantation Lodge. [BLD]

DAYS 9-10 :  NGORONGORO CRATER
Ngorongoro is one of the most spectacular game hunts in Africa and has been designated a World Heritage site. Here animals are found throughout the year due to the permanent availability of grass and water. Nearly 100 square miles, it contains an impressive variety of wildlife including black-maned lions, the highly endangered black rhino, herds of wildebeest, zebra, elephants, hippo, and hyena, the most important predator within the crater.  Bird life is also prolific, with flocks of flamingoes on the soda lake, plus other species of water and plains birds.  We will spend each morning in the crater.  In the first afternoon, we will visit a local school in Karatu where you will have a chance to interact with the school children and learn about Tanzania's education system. During the second afternoon, we will walk with our guide and a Ngorongoro Park Ranger to look at the beautiful views of Lake Eyasi below. This area is the home of the Maasai, and children will often join us as we walk. We may also see bushbuck and other highland species. Overnights at Plantation Lodge. [BLD]

DAYS 11-13 :  SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Morning departure for the drive to the Serengeti National Park.  We will stop enroute at Olduvai Gorge, the famous archaeological site where the Leakey's discovery of the Australopithecus, Homo habilis, and Homo erectus remains brought crucial understanding to the study of the evolution of the human species.  Serengeti is likely the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world. During the months of the migration these seemingly unending plains contain huge numbers of wildebeest and zebra with estimates of up to 1.5 million. In February and March, they concentrate at the Ndutu and Salei plains, where the calving season takes place, attracting the attention of predators like lion, cheetah, and hyena. Another interesting feature in Serengeti are the kopjes, or massive islands of granite standing in a sea of grass, which provide shelter to a great variety of plants and animals from the elusive leopard to the tiny dik dik.

Our three nights in the Serengeti are spent at our Private Classic Camp, set up just for our group in the heart of the wilderness. [BLD]

DAY 14 :  DEPARTURE
Enjoy a final game drive this morning before your flight to Arusha. There will be time for some shopping before resting in a dayroom at Olasiti Lodge. Dinner is included before your transfer to the Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departing flight this evening. [BLD]
